KITE 3.0 crashed, cannot log back in after restart

To the forum, hello.

EDIT: I am not logged in on another machine as this is the only one I have ever used. I have not shared these credentials with anyone either so I don't expect a true concurrency issue.

I am a first time user, and I love this product! I am having an issue now however and I don't know how to get around it.

KITE 3.0 crashed. When i restarted, my login attempt was met with a 'Login failed. Server response: 'This user is currently logged in.'

I have been locked out for about an hour now and would love to be able to log back in and keep recording. Is there a default time I should need to wait, or can this get unlocked somehow?

Auto-install of new KITE versions

Hey,

Thanks for a great product. I just wished you would turn off the auto-installation of new KITE versions, and just prompt the user whether he/she wants to install. Many business users, myself included, do not have admin rights on the PC, so the auto-installation fails every time it tries to run, which is a bit annoying.

Edit a script; using variable for a specific case (value based text found on a page)

So I have a script recorded and but couldn't get the playback working as the website I recorded the script on uses a form having a text field whose value needs to dynamically filled based on a text found on the page. Upon playback, the script gets stuck in this screen as it could not determine the answer to respond with.

The page may present one of the following securing questions (in a html 'div'), the answer for which needs to be dynamically filled depending on the question challenged.

Example 1:

What is your pet's name?

Example 2:

What is your age?

Example 3:

What is your car's make?

Each time the page is hit, the question may change randomly. But the answer to the question lies within the question itself and is determined as follows:

The answer is the text that appears as the last word in the question

So the answers to the above sample security questions are name age and make respectively.

I understand that I should use a variable of the type 'Text found from page'. But what are the values I would need to fill for this variable, i.e., the values for the following parameters:

Index:

Length:

Text after:

Window:

Frame:

Does KITE support variable values that need to be found this way?

Script not playing back on KITE network. Plays when run locally

The attached script was recording by just randonly clicking on a fews links at java.sun.com. I changed the completion event to Timer (without a timeout of 3 secs) as that was the only completion I could get the script working decently when playing back.

When running the script locally (clicked on the Run button on KITE client), the script plays back just fine.

I uploaded the script and ran 'Instant Test' with only NewYork selected but received -1010 error (screenshot attached). What does this error mean and how would I go about fixing this?

KITE 3.0 crashes upon Javascript errors

I've been using KITE 2.0 to create ApP scripts that measures a Flash Application, located in a webpage. I downloaded the 3.0 version of KITE yesterday, and all over sudden the KITE application crashes - both when I'm trying to run my old scripts, but also when I'm trying to record a new script.

To recreate: Select Record Simulated Browser Script (ApP), select http://www.volvocars.com/se/tools/Pages/VBS3.aspx as the Starting URL. Wait until the page has loaded and immidiately click "Stop recording". When running this short script (see attached zipfile), the KITE appliation crashes.

The debug errors are these: "An unhandled exception occurred in Recorder.exe" and "Object doesn't support this property or method" and "vcc.nav is null or not an object". This leads me to think that the webpage contain javascript errors, so I turned off "Download Java Scripts" and "Execute Java Scripts" items in the KITE settings, but to no use, same errors.

Can I download the old version of KITE somewhere?

My computer specs are these: Windows XP professional SP3, flash 10 (I also uninstalled flash completely, but no success)

Question About Cache

If I've already recorded a script and saved it as un-encrypted, can I easily toggle this cache opotion by making a change in a text editor? Or do I have to re-do the whole script?

Login Expired on first login to desktop app

Can anyone tell me if hotmail is one of the mail servers that would block the mail when you first sign-up. I did not get it and so I cant login to the desktop application but can login to the website.

You can use KITE to record transactions using either a real IE browser or an emulated browser.
A test script recorded using KITE, by modifying the user agent string, will simulate browsers like Safari, Firefox, Opera, or virtually any browser.
KITE has a built-in text viewer, you can search, toggle bookmarks and collapse and expand sections.
Script element properties can be modified after recording using KITE's script editing features.
In the Script Repository real IE (Transaction Perspective) Scripts are indicated by a blue icon and emulated (Application Perspective) scripts are indicated by a green icon.
KITE displays HTTP Request and Response Headers for each element shown in the Transaction Performance Details view.
If your site has a firewall that requires the use of a proxy to access the Internet, you can specify the proxy Username and Password in KITE.
You can do advanced scripting by using JavaScript commands within KITE scripts.
You can record a transaction as a new user (no cache/no cookies) or a returning user (hot cache).
You can add wait times in your script to allow the browser complete events if needed.
You can count the number of HTTP responses that are received and check for a specific pattern in an HTTP response to mark completion of an action.
With ApP measurements, you can create Content Exclusions based on regular expressions to block certain webpage content from being downloaded. For TxP measurements, starting with TxP 9 and KITE 3.0, you can do something similar (block certain content from impacting your statistics) with Match Page Elements filters.
You can use Virtual Profiles to use different login name / password for every iteration of the script execution.
If you have dynamic content in queries or Post elements, you can use the “Edit” button to save one and use the “Previously Saved Value” on later elements.
The big K at the top left is a pull-down menu with many functions that are not all available in the ribbon.
Copy-and-Paste is useful to move steps from one Action to another.
Use the View menu in the ribbon to perform a Find within text files.
If you disable the “Encrypt” option box on the right side of the Home ribbon, all saved files will be in human-readable XML format.
Even validation text can be set to random or saved values!
When you see a -99002 error on a new TxP script, the first thing to check is the number of Download Cycles configured in the Completion event settings. Perhaps the number of cycles is too high.
Navigation Errors (-1010) are most likely due to the web page not being completed when a link, button, etc., is attempted. Check out the completion configuration on the previous Action.
TxP records you clicking on a text field and filling out the text as separate events. It’s ok to remove steps that are simply clicking in a text field as long as the next step is filling out the field.
The Advanced API scripting steps available for ApP scripts provide an unlimited amount of flexibility for navigating through a script.
URL query entries (not Post entries) are listed in the Transaction Performance Details section after a script runs.
You can copy the full URL by right-clicking and choosing Copy Selection to Clipboard so you can view the full URL in a text editor.
You can specify custom headers in a test script to run on a Web site that needs a cookie containing authentication token.
You could share (e-mail) your reports to a larger group for the tests run from the Keynote cloud.
You can create a script that looks for a specific word or phrase on a page. If it’s NOT there, an error code 99100 will be reported.

Error 12029 is a TCP connection error, indicating the Web server was not reachable. It is not abnormal for this error to occur occasionally due to Internet problems.

Desktop login error

After install when I try to login to the desktop application I get the following message:

I can however login to httP;//my.keynote.com with the same login.

I have re-installed the application but it still gives the same error. Can someone help?

Can I mask passwords in the script viewer?

This question was asked via our feedback feature and I'll post it here along with an answer:

Q: I'd like to know whether it is possible to hide password and username values so that they are not visible in the script viewer when a script is played back.

A: Masking passwords in the script viewer is the new default for the KITE version that will be released in the next 30-60 days.

If a field is type “password” (attribute on the web page being recorded) then we will display it with ****’s as the browser would. We do NOT yet provide a means to mask login id’s unless the web page you are recording treats them as type password too.

Masking will only mask what’s shown on the screen, and if you click the actual masked field the properties inspector in the bottom left will show the value in the clear.

Basically, you can run your script live or video it for someone without your password displaying in the script viewer on the left as it plays. You can’t share the script or let someone else drive your workstation without risking revealing the value.

When you upload such a script to Keynote for scheduled monitoring, we use https so the password does not pass in the clear. The “Encrypt” option next to the save icon in the middle of the ribbon bar controls whether the script is stored in the clear on your hard drive or encrypted first. This will protect you in the case where someone is scanning your hard drive for passwords.

Double-click and 1010 error

I recorded a script. One step involved double-clicking on an image to open it. On playback, the script seems to perform only a single click, not a double-click. A -99002 Page Completion condition changes/-1010 navigation failure ensues.

When I tried to play the script back a second time, KITE crashed. I then restarted KITE and replayed the script several times. It always failed with the -1010 error but did not crash again.

How can I fix this problem so the script completes? Can I modify the script so that it will issue a double-click, not a single click?

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but what sort of content would be included as 'n/a' in the content type column in the results section of the scripts? (these are the ones where there is no icon, compared to those for css, js, etc).

We rolled out a new version of KITE this week. The product is still called "KITE 2.0" but the internal version is 8.7.60.285 and it brings several long awaited enhancements to KITE:

KITE will now back up your cookies upon launch and restore your IE cookies upon exit. No more wiping out your identity/preferences for sites you use IE to browse outside of KITE.
The User Agent string in Internet Explorer will now only reflect use of a Keynote agent (the presence of the KTXN string) while KITE is running. Upon exit of KITE, your original User Agent string will be restored. This avoids having your regular IE usage look like agent traffic.
KITE now supports Application Perspective 5.4, Keynote's most powerful and accurate browser emulation product to date. ApP 5.4 has more powerful JavaScript parsing and execution capabilities as well as selective CSS image downloading to ensure that only images actually called for on the page are downloaded.

Those are the big changes. We are working on more changes for a late summer/early fall release as well.

Your copy of KITE should automatically offer you the update. If not, you can simply click the Options tab and choose "Check Now" in the KITE Update box:

"Help" file

Hi,

What does "Enable Alternative HTTP Encoding Handling" mean exactly?

I can not find it in the "help" file. I would have thought that "help" files get updated in tandem as new features are added?

In the help file, I was looking at the ApP scripting techniques. How do you use the HRESULT commands? Can you add examples to each function?

Also, the DOM Javascript completion event may work in KITE but it does not work in your measurement machines. Are your features fully tested before release?

File Download prompt trying to record any site (IE8 not yet supported by KITE)

No matter what site I try to record, I get the dialog "File Download - Security Warning". I can access these sites successfully in IE. In the attached screenshot I am simply trying to record www.google.com.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Kite.

Any idea how to get this working?

Login Failure from KITE

I'm running Kite through the scheduler so that it starts up every 2-3 hours and then i run some scripts. Usually KITE starts fine and loads up my first script. I run the scripts and then just close the app.

Ocasionally though I get a log on box come up and I enter my user name and password. I then get this error:

I cannot go any further from this point and I'm unable to run the app.

Can you help?

Problem recording script

I'm trying to record a new script that does a simple, single page TxP download. The URL we are passing should return a page of raw XML. When the URL is given to the recorder, however, it incorrectly thinks it's a file, and launches a File Download dialog box since it can't determine the file type from the URL.

I've tested the URL manually in IE, Firefox and Safari with each returning the raw XML page as expected.

We do have other uploaded and in use TxP scripts that test pages that return raw XML without any problems, so I'm not sure why KITE is failing to identify the data type in the page.

I'm using KITE 2.0 v8.6.59.276

OK, I ran a script to the grab a few items on Amazon and then go to the shopping basket. Pretty straightforward stuff. I did have to create an account, but again, I thought it was pretty simple.

Then I ran the script.

In Frankfurt, London, and Hong Kong, I got an error code "-1010" what does that mean? The user experience time was brief. 2 seconds for FF, and London, 7.4 s for HK.

In NY and SF, the UX time out at 60 seconds, an dthe error code was "-99002"

I got no content errors.

I've attached the script. The inital one I used actually was supposed to log me into my wish list, as well as select from the main menu. Same issues, so I decided to streamline the recording to leave out the wish list.

Updated KITE Help File

If you would like to have the latest and greatest info, there are two things you can do:

Unblock the help file by following the steps below.

Steps to unblock the help file:

Browse to the Recorder.chm file in your file explorer. One way to quickly get there is to use Start, Run and paste this into the dialog box: c:\Program Files\Keynote Systems\Keynote Recorder 8.0
Right-click on the Recorder.chm file and choose "Properties."
Click the "Unblock" button in the bottom right of the properties dialog:

I just registered KITE, but the PUSH TO TEST button asks me to log in again.

Every day, more and more people are hearing about KITE and some are very eager to jump in and see what the new one-click global testing feature does.

Today I heard from someone who clicked on the new PUSH TO START button and instead of getting the Free 5-City test screen, got a "please log in" screen instead. The good news: this problem goes away by itself, and quickly.

If you have just registered KITE and then immediately clicked the link in your "Keynote KITE Activation" email, you may need to wait up to 15 minutes before our global network will recognize you.

So, if you press this button:

...and see a browser window prompting you to log in again:

...you are just arriving on the global network a little early :-)

The solution? Simply close the web browser window, wait a few minutes (15 minutes if you want to be sure) and then click the "PUSH TO START" button again. Voila! Success! You do not need to exit and restart KITE.

New KITE Version Available

A new version of KITE has been released today, Thursday, November 13th, 2008.

If you see the "UPGRADE KITE NOW" button below on the middle of your start page, then please follow the directions below...

Getting the latest version of KITE if you are not prompted with a dialog:

By default, KITE will look for a newer version, download it for you and ask if you wish to install it. If you do not see these dialogs appear upon launching KITE, but you see the button above on your start page, you just need to ask KITE to "Check Now" for an update:

Choose the Options menu
Click on "Check Now" to start the automatic upgrade process.

As soon as you click "Check Now" you should see this dialog:

...followed by this dialog once the download is complete:

Just click "Yes" and KITE will shut down, install and restart.

That's it!

You can also go to the Download Page on kite.keynote.com to get the new installer manually.

AjaxWorld CD problem

Keynote distributed a CD at AjaxWorld. I loaded it into two different computers, double clicked on the MSI, and got:

"This installation package could not be opened."

Maybe this is a one-off problem with just my CD. But FYI you might want to spot check some others.

I was able to download the installer off the website, and that worked, so I'm good to go.

I have forgotten my KITE password, how can I get my password?

When KITE is launched, the following login dialog will appear.

Clicking on the "Forgot your password?" link will open up the browser and directs to a page where the user can enter his username (email address) and type in the characters displayed in the "Captcha". Once this form is submitted, the existing password will be emailed to the registered email that the user has registered.

What are the minimum requirements for setting up ITE 2.0 (KITE 2.0)
