How to resize your photo to be no larger than 120 x 120:

Since your photo or image must be no larger than 120 x 120, you may need to resize down from what you have. An excellent free tool for this is PIXresizer which is available directly from the author at http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm

Using PIXresizer:

Click the "Load Picture" button to load your existing file.

Select the "Custom Size" radio button.

Replace the larger of the two dimensions with "120" while leaving the "Maintain Aspect Ratio" checkbox checked.

Click the "Save Picture" button.

Note on file type: If your original was anything other than JPEG or PNG, be sure to select either of those two radio buttons in "Select file format" before saving.

A note on what is appropriate for an image:

Feel free to use a humorous image, an accurate photo, a stick-figure drawing, whatever suits you! All we ask is that you avoid any image that may offend other users. That's not an easy standard to describe, but just imagine that you are attending a user conference with your peers: would you feel comfortable having the image on a t-shirt you would wear? Would others be comfortable seeing it?

Any questions? Just post a reply here!
/dtk

There are three types of search available here:

Search the Forums is basic and searches the entire forum. You will find this search feature on the left column of every screen. Results are always a list of topics you can click on to view.

Search Category is also basic, but returns results only from the current category you are browsing. You will find this search box at the top center of each topic list once you select a category to browse. Like Search the Forums, results are always a list of topics you can click on to view.

Advanced Search has a lot of power and flexibility. Both Search the Forums and Search Category offer links to Advanced Search. In addition to writing complex search conditions, filtering by date and categories, you also can choose to have the results displayed in expanded form with no need to "drill down" to see what is inside each message. Just choose Display results as (o) messages instead of the default of topics. If you use the Display results as (o) messages you may find your browser's text search function (such as ctrl-f in Internet Explorer) very handy to quickly jump to the term(s) you are most interested in.

Category Subscriptions and the related Category Digest and Email Posting features send you everything that is posted in a particular category. You find these subscription options in your Personal Options tab after clicking on profile in the menu at the top of the screen.

There are two editors here. You choose them by clicking on profile in the top menu and then selecting the Personal Options tab:

...and making a choice in the Editor Type section:

(Be sure to save your settings by clicking the Update Profile button at the bottom of the page:

So let's learn a bit about each of the editors, shall we?

The default editor is the WYSIWYG Editor (What You See Is What You Get).

The WYSIWYG Editor is "smart" about things like pasting links and accepting formatted text intact. It has spell checking. It also has advanced features, like letting you control whether a link opens in the same window (good for linking to other forum posts) or a new window (good for linking to examples and other information outside the forum).

The only catch is that this editor requires Internet Explorer or Firefox to run. When running in Firefox, some of the features may vary a bit (such as the ability to control the target for links).

The WYSIWYG Editor looks like this:

If you click the full screen button on the far right of the toolbar...

...it lets you stretch the window as big as you like, giving you a much better view:

Brace yourself, below you will be looking at a screenshot of an earlier version of this very same post, with a screenshot inside that. This reminds me of looking in a mirror at a barbershop and seeing 1000 images of myself sitting in the chair

Always remember to exit the full screen mode by clicking the icon again in the toolbar. You'll need to do that in order to get back to the "Post Message" button!

The other editor is known as the HTML Editor.

The HTML Editor is more of a "classic" forum editor. It only displays plain text and a quasi-HTML like markup language, and then provides a "Preview" button to display the formatted result. This editor actually has advantages over the WYSIWYG editor when it comes to controlling white-space in numbered lists, line breaks without gapping for a new paragraph, etc.

Examples of all of the formatting options are always available by clicking the symbols link in the left margin.

The HTML Editor looks like this:

If you want to capture a specific area of your screen, in a still image or a even a narrated movie, you should check out jing. The unique thing about jing is how sharing-friendly and net-connected it is. Oh, and it is free, too.

Jing lets you use its hosting service for free, but even more importantly it lets you configure it to post to your own FTP server and then it instantly pushes your images and movies there and generates a URL on the fly for you to paste.

Here is a screenshot I took from another Keynote tool, KITE:

I also did a rolling screencam showing the above procedure step by step, which you can watch by clicking this link: Watch a narrated movie of restoring KITE layout.

I will expand on this idea later with additional posts to this thread, but for now let me just say that this free (for now) tool is extremely well suited for online community sharing. Whether in a post here or just an email or instant message to a colleague, a jing-captured image or movie is easy to make and easy to share.

I highlighted and annotated the screenshot above, gave it a name and pressed one button. Jing uploaded the screenshot to my ftp server and generated a ready-to-paste URL. I came into this message and pasted it. Done.

I'm not a paid promoter of jing, but I am a happy user.

Here is a quick FAQ from the www.jingproject.com.

If you have two minutes to learn a little more, check out the playful little explanation of how jing came about and what you can do with it: video demo of the idea behind jing.

Please note:

We have temporarily turned off all outbound email functionality.

You will not be able to subscribe to email threads, digests or alerts or email from a thread until we turn this feature back on.

We apologise for the inconvenience, but we have seen cases where user names (which are email addresses here) have been exposed in these messages and we are committed to not sharing your email address.

We are working with our vendor to resolve this issue urgently.
